Hi, I’m [Khürt L. Williams](http://khurtwilliams.com). I write about technology on [Island in the Net](http://islandinthenet.com/), but post random thoughts on [Khürt/blog](http://khurt.com/blog/). I am active on [Twitter](http://twitter.com/khurtwilliams) and [Google+](http://profiles.google.com/khurtwilliams/). I am active in the Princeton area’s social media community and currently serve as Vice President to the Princeton MacIntosh Users’ Group. I am passionate about funding research to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes. You can sometimes find me sitting with my iPad drinking coffee in one of Princeton’s cafés.
Bio: My background includes multimedia research and development, IT security, and consulting. I’ve worked for many firms, large and small.
I began computing on a [Commodore VIC20](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_VIC-20). In addition to “toy computers” I have worked with many systems from the mid 80s on: PCs, Macs, and the major UNIX players. Along the way I’ve been a Web Developer, Web Master, Technical Lead, Project Manager, Service Delivery Manger and Systems Security Manager.
In case you haven’t figured this out from looking at my photograph’s I am not a professional photographer. I’m just a guy with a camera who loves capturing moments of light.
My photography kit includes the following:
I use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to import and manage my image catalog. For HDR images, I use Photomatix Pro by HDRsoft. I prefer shooting with prime lenses. My 35mm and 50mm are the lenses I use most of the time but I plan to buy more lense including the Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.4G, and Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 and, Nikkor AF-S Micro 40mm f/2.8G DX.
do you have a preferred way of organizing your images? Can you tag in lightroom? I have so many pictures but really at a loss how to organize and make sure they all get saved properly so I can find them when I need them…
I organise my photos by date and time. This happens automatically when I import them but Lightroom allows me to change the work-flow to suit your preferences. Once my photos are imported I go through them tossing out the “losers”. Then I go through them again and cull out the remaining “losers” and rating the photos. Then I got through them once again and add tags. Within Lightroom I can search by tag, by rating, by date etc.
Sounds like a lot of work but … the alternative is a disorganised mess that won’t help me find that one photo of my daughter on the roller coaster from last years trip to Great Adventure.
I use Lightroom because of the photo editing options. If you tend to keep the photos as it then I recommend Google Picasa™. PIcasa is designed to make work of organising a photo catalogue as easy as possible and has features for sharing via Facebook and PicasaWeb. PicasaWeb is Google’s photo hosting and social sharing web site. I highly recommend it. The best part – Picasa and PicasWeb are free! It works on Mac or Windows.
